Negative? Positive!

I have always been a very positive person, looking for the good in everything I possibly can. I used to tell my children “look for the good and you will find it. Look for the bad and you will find it.” It really is our choice as to how we look at life.
As we get older life does seem to get more difficult at times. It is very easy to get down and look at how bad things are. But the more we have that attitude the more down we get and the more difficult things look.

When I catch myself being down like that I remind myself that there is always good and I search for that good. When I had cancer in 1999 I struggled with being sad for months but then I realized how fortunate I really was! Yes, I had cancer. Yes, I had surgery. Yes, I had radiation BUT but the positive was-they caught my cancer early, my surgery was a lumpectomy and radiation could have been worse! So many people had it so much worse. Cancer also taught me patience, how to sympathize with others, and taught me compassion. Things I truly needed to learn.

When you are struggling with something difficult I encourage you to look for things that are good. I have even drawn a line down the center of a piece of paper and put pros on one side and cons on the other and have always been surprised at how many pros there were and how few cons there were.

Truly looking for the good in life is an exercise that we all should practice. It will be an example to others as well as encourage your own self as you grow through difficulties.

Sadly, Many negative people don’t even realize they’re being negative. These are the people that always talk about how sick they are, or post on Facebook that their car broke down, or they’re throwing up, or their dog got hit, ….. Yes those things are happening, but they happen to all of us! We just don’t dwell on it. If you are wondering if you’re a negative person, a tip might be when you begin to notice that people don’t want to be around you.
People run from negative people yet are drawn to positive people.

What type of person are you! You really can do something about your attitude; take a good look and see if you are looking for the good in your life.

Have you ever just felt completely alone, and you feel people judge you because of what you look like and overall you just feel that you have no hope? That is an awful place to be but I have walked in those shoes! That is what it feels like to be 100 pounds overweight. It is a hopeless feeling but there is good news!!! You can do something about it!
Rather than worry about what everyone thinks, spend more time focusing on what you can do about this issue. It is hard to believe, but there is more energy spent on focusing on the negative than focusing on the positive.
I remember struggling for months over my feelings that it was not fair that I had to watch my weight, and others did not. What I failed to see was that other people had their own issues also, but they didn’t wear theirs! If being fat is really my only difficult situation in my life, then I count that as a blessing!
First, you are not alone and you don’t have to go through this by your self. Many of us have struggled with the exact same thing and have been successful!
One of the biggest excuses that I hear is “I can’t afford a gym membership”.
Let me tell you, I took off my first 50 pounds by merely walking 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile at night. I did not have a gym membership, I was not close to a gym, and I had a very time-consuming job. What I did do, is to commit to doing something! Something was much better than nothing.
Secondly, another common excuse is “I can’t afford healthy food”. You are correct in thinking that healthy food is more expensive than junk food, but you can buy healthy food and eat less of it, and it comes out to be about the same cost. A good tip also is to eat more protein than carbs and fat. It is really that simple. Protein is what sticks with you, carbs and fat only assist the protein to stick with you.
Thirdly, realize that people will look at you and they will make a judgment based on what they see…that is life. We just have to get over that and I know it is not easy. But honestly I cannot encourage you strongly enough that if you will focus more on what you’re doing right and less on what people think that will be a huge step toward your success.
So, start moving your body …. whether it is at home or to a TV exercise program or walking; start shopping more wisely, and quit focusing on what people think about you.
The money you will save in healthcare expenses alone by being more healthy, by buying groceries that are more healthy and by having a great attitude, will shock you! Plus the added benefit of feeling fantastic, looking better, and feeling great about lifeā€¦ Will be a complete restoration from the inside out.
There is hope. Don’t ever give up. You can and will do this!
